Acne Laser Long Island

Acne Vulgaris will affect most of us over the course of our lives and is more a nuisance than a medical crisis. However, acne has dramatic effects on a persons self esteem and can reduce the enjoyment of life's pleasures.  What makes matters worse is that Acne tends to develop during times of hormonal change . Thus, teens who are already in a stress full time in their lives dealing with fitting in, being social and looking good are most affected by Acne.

All Acne lesions are basically small localized infections with a bacteria called P Acne, they potentially develop when the outlet of our sebaceous glands become obstructed leaving a pocket of sebum which is a perfect pool for an infection to develop. This infection results in the red bump of an Acne lesion often with a small puss core.

Acne vulgaris , the common small red lesions are generally harmless however, Acne that is Cystic is more deleterious to the skin. Cystic Acne has a larger pool of infected material that if left untreated will create Acne Scars.  Cystic Acne requires aggressive treatment with not only topical agents like Retin-A , BP,oral antibiotics and steroid injections into the lesion. Serious Cystic Acne that is resistant may require Accutaine to treat the acne. However, accutaine has serious side effects such as dry flaky skin, hair loss and depression. 

Currently there are a host of Acne treatments available, aside from topical antibiotics, exfoliants , Retanoids  we also have laser Acne protocols.

The spectra laser is excellent Acne treatment and well tolerated by all teens and adults. Spectra is a 3 stage laser treatment for Acne.

1. Stage 1 : A liquid carbon is applied to the face and allowed to dry over several minutes.  then the spectra laser is utilized to heat this carbon with a quasi-long pulse laser. A single pass is made over the entire face which warms the dermis and is the initial stage for the Acne treatment.
2. Stage 2: The Q-Switched YAG is focused on the face and multiple passes are made over the entire face but also focusing on the Acne , both Cystic Acne and Acne Vulgaris. During this stage the carbon will explode and as it does takes a fine layer of the outer epidermis with it opening the pores , clearing clogged sebum and likely harming the bacteria causing the Acne.
3. Stage 3: In this stage we return to the Spectra Laser and make several passes focusing on all of the Acne lesions and any areas that look like an Acne lesion is going to form.

The entire process takes only about 20 minutes, is painless and very well tolerated.  A majority of the time the skin has a healthy glow as the outer layer has been removed, some small Acne lesions may resolve in as little as 48 hours but most note the biggest change by the third laser Acne treatment.

This Acne treatment consists of 4-5 sessions all spaced 10 to 14 days apart. The results normally are a significant reduction in the Acne, less inflammation, lass potential Acne scar formation

On occasion in addition to the Spectra Laser for Acne I will add an oral antibiotic or topical therapy to help reduce the Acne.
